The Ultimate Guide to Buransh Juice: Science-Backed Facts

In the majestic Himalayas, a special tree has been a cornerstone of local wellness for centuries. The Buransh (Rhododendron) tree, with its vibrant flowers, has been used as folk medicine in Uttarakhand, playing a vital role in the region's culture and economy. Traditionally, the petals of Rhododendron flowers are incorporated into various food preparations. Locals add pulp to Indian bread like roti and parathas, manually grind fresh petals to make chutney, and prepare small batches of squashes and syrups at home for daily use. The flowers are also used to make certain drinks and the local wine "sur," primarily consumed to prevent high-altitude sickness.

Buransh is a natural remedy with a range of health benefits. It can help protect your heart, reduce inflammation, and support blood sugar control. Buransh contains antioxidants that fight harmful free radicals, protecting your cells and overall health.

But do Buransh flowers offer these benefits? It's essential to examine the scientific evidence supporting these claims. In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on using scientific research to inform nutrition and health decisions. In this blog, we will explore the scientific perspective on the benefits of Buransh juice.

Buransh Juice Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg rhododendron petals
  • 2 liters water
  • 750 g sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Citric acid (optional, for preservation)

Instructions:

  1. Thoroughly clean the rhododendron petals to remove any dirt or impurities.
  2. In a large pot, add the petals to 2 liters of water.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. After simmering, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve, pressing the petals to extract all the flavor.
  5. While the liquid is still warm, stir in the sugar, adjusting to taste (about 750 g of sugar for every 1 kg of petals).
  6. Once the sugar has fully dissolved, your rhododendron juice is ready.
  7. Store in the refrigerator, where it will last for 2-3 days.
  8. To extend the shelf life, you can add a small amount of citric acid. Be careful not to add too much, as it can overpower the delicate flavor of the petals.
